Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I have a hole in the wall fire?
A:
Contact your local builder or fireplace fitter and have a site survey carried out. Using the dimensions from this site check the dimensions first before purchasing. For all gas fires use a certified Corgi gas fireplace fitter.
Q: Is my chimney/flue suitable?
A:
Our Gel Fires do not require a flue and so no chimney is required. Our Gas fired baskets are suitable for Class1 and Class 2 flues. If you uncertain which type of flue you have, please get an inspection carried out by a NACS approved chimney sweep or a Corgi registered Gas fireplace fitter.
Q: Does my chimney need to be lined?
A:
For the fitting of any of our Gas fires we recommend that you have your chimney/flue swept and inspected by a NACS approved sweep and or a Corgi certificated gas engineer in order to establish if a liner is required.
Q: Who can install my fireplace?
A:
All installations must be carried out in accordance with the requirements set out in the Building Regulation documents, in particular, Approved Document J. There are independent bodies which have been approved to carry out installations in accordance with these regulations. For Gas installations the most recognised independent body is CORGI. Please make sure your fitter is Corgi registered. Once the fire has been fitted you will be issued a certificate stating that your installation has been carried out in accordance with the current Building Regulations. If you do not have one of these certificates then you will have to go to your local Building Control Officer and get them to inspect your installation and approve it. Your Gel Fire is currently not covered by these regulations and therefore can be fitted by any competent builder.
Q: Do I need a hearth?
A:
For installations within the UK, you do not need a hearth as long as your installation complies with British Standard: 5871/3 2005. See below.
Q: Do I need an air vent?
A:
No, all our gas burners are under 7Kw input and therefore do not require an air vent.
Q: Where do I find a Corgi registered fireplace fitter?
A:
Your local phone directory will have a listing of fitters in your area, or you can Ring Corgi direct on 0870-401-2300 or email them or visit their site at www.corgi-gas.com
Q: Do I need a mains electrical supply?
A:
No, our remote control Gas fires are battery operated and require no mains wiring.
Q: Can I use your products as a solid fuel fire?
A:
No, all our fires are made for Gas and Gel only.
Q: Will your fires heat my room?
A:
Our Gas fires are all classed as decorative flame effect fires and are not intended as the primary source of heat for any room, although unlike some other fires they have been made to burn as efficiently as possible.
Q: Which Countries are your Gas fires suitable for?
A:
All our gas burners carry a CE approved number and are suitable for use in the following countries: UK & Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden.
